I'm a big fan of a clean boot and not having a ton of stuff ('inits' they'd be called in the early Mac days) littering up my system tray and bogging down my restarts. I was annoyed when I couldn't make the Virus that is acrotray.exe STOP. I had looked in the usual places - Startup folder (own and All Users) as well as system registry Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (CURRENT_USER and LOCAL_MACHINE) and still it kept popping up. Until today. I tracked down another, new in Windows 7, backward compatible spot:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
And it was like finding a roach nest under the fridge! There was so much garbage there. But not anymore. And never again.
